There has always been a dark edge to religion that has inspired fashion and art. Rooted in the aesthetics of William Blake, an artist who was reverent of the Bible but hostile to the Church of England, theology has inspired evocative imagery through the ages. Angels have frequently featured on graphic t-shirts, usually as dark angels or fallen angels with the tattooist’s inky twist. Religion clothing occasionally features religious imagery but Religion clothing is a brand best known for its anarchic graphics. Its roots are in early club culture – from the early 90s – when music was chemically inspired.
